Attention all quilters …
You can be a part of the extravaganza in Paducah, KY and I have decided to join you as the escort in 2008. I have heard about the great time that quilter’s have and would like to enjoy the experience myself! The creative ideas, new patterns, exquisite materials, and professional instruction all become a part of our activity for three full days in this small town setting. You can walk to many shops in town, close by the convention center. There’s so much to learn and compare in a group, and everyone benefits from shared ideas. So bring your fellow guild members for a really good time. This is our 9th year of going to Paducah and the enthusiasm increases every year. Same motel entire time, right along the trolley route.
You will possibly want to reserve the special workshops or lectures well before we go, to assure that you get the one you want. That is also a good time to order your entry ticket. This is done directly with the American Quilt Society.Day 1: Departing Yoder and other pick-ups along the route this morning we settle in for our day of driving and working on current projects without phone or doorbell interruptions. It has been most interesting to see all the creations that are brought on board to work on along the way. It will be a long day but by evening we’ll arrive in Paducah, home for four nights. We were able to secure rooms right on the trolley route, which will be nice for you to come and go at the times you want.
Day 2: If you did not have your entry bracelet mailed to you, you will need to pick up your bracelet this morning at the convention center as you head off to enjoy the variety of workshops, lectures, and special events. You can spend time with and learn from the world’s most knowledgeable quilt instructors. Learn the tricks of the trade from those who make the Quilt Show happen. You’ll not want to miss Hancock’s of Paducah, with a huge selection of fabric in vast array of colors. Back to the same motel. Across the street from the motel is the large shopping mall with so many interesting quilt exhibits.
Day 3: After breakfast we’ll do our drop-offs as we head for the quilt show again. You may want to visit the downtown area using the trolley during show hours to see the quilt displays in the shop windows, and visit the various museums and displays. You can stop by the National Quilt Museum, which is the largest Quilt Museum in America, and features over 150 antique and contemporary quilts. Following an included dinner, a local guide will join us to show us some of the city’s highlights.
Day 4: Today will be your last chance to take in any workshops or lectures. Don’t forget to pick up souvenirs, books and specialty items. You’ll find over 150 vendors at the Merchant Mall with an array of quilts and quilting supplies to choose from. In the Historic District on Friday evening they usually have some homes open for touring, for any one interested in the open house tour.
Day 5: Today we will say good-bye to Paducah and the kaleidoscope of colors that we have seen. We will arrive back home inspired by the talent in design and color that we have witnessed together.
