There is nothing that compares to the Paseo Del Rio, or River Walk and the festivities along it during the holiday season. Look through the itinerary and then join us for one of the most popular destinations during the Christmas season, where we enjoy carolers, food, lights, decorations, Christmas shopping, and so much more, as we prepare for the best “Time of the Year.”
Day 1: Thanksgiving is behind us now and we’re getting into the Christmas Spirit and ready for the festivities in San Antonio. Departing Yoder this morning we will head south. By noon we will be into Oklahoma City for a tour of the Memorial to the bomb victims at the Federal Building. After lunch we will continue south arriving at our motel in the Fort Worth area.
Day 2: Today we will be in San Antonio by mid-afternoon. We will first go to the IMAX to watch the presentation “Alamo…The Price of Freedom” on the six-story screen. Then we will head over to the Alamo to learn about the 13 fateful days in 1836. Next we will head to the River Walk. Every night when the sun goes down, the decorations of over 125,000 colorful, holiday lights are displayed along the banks and in the tall Cypress trees. Our evening will be spent at the River Walk with a narrated ride “under lights” on the river, flowing casually along, all the while enjoying the caroling of the different groups, and the beautiful decorations. There will be some time for strolling and enjoying the river and maybe even some shopping. Our motel here in San Antonio will be home for two nights.
Day 3: This morning starts with a local guide for a tour of this interesting city. We will visit the Old Village a quiet settlement of the 1700’s, the oldest Cathedral in the U.S., the San Jose Mission, and the El Mercado, the oldest and largest Mexican Market in the U.S. Next we are in for a real treat as we visit the S.A.S. shoe factory and outlet store. The careful way that these shoes are made, makes them one of the most comfortable shoes to wear. I know lots of you enjoy wearing this shoe. We will have a chance to visit their outlet store. Maybe you want to purchase a pair of shoes. They have good prices in the outlet. We will then head back to the River Walk for a barge ride this afternoon. A totally different look during the day!
Day 4: Bidding farewell to our host city, we’ll turn north. Mid-afternoon in Dallas we will make a stop at the 6th Floor Museum to view the exhibits on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. We have one more Christmas extravaganza. It’s an outstanding interpretation of the greatest story ever told. The choir with over 200 members would be well worth the stop, but it goes on and on with live animals, angels, people right out of the Bible, and an orchestra with inspiring melodious refrains. We’ll overnight in the Dallas area. (NOTE: As of printing date, the church was not sure if the pageant would be presented in 2008 or not. If not, we will substitute another holiday event)
Day 5: What memories have been made over the last 5 days. We will be driving in our comfortable motorcoach for most of the day today, as we head home. After a stop in Norman at the well stocked Mason’s Pecans & Peanuts, for some products to help us complete our holiday baking, we’re homeward bound ready to celebrate with family and friends.
